Day 44 – The Days are Running Together – Friday, May 19

Another late night getting home and I was too tired to update (it actually slipped my mind). I have a feeling that updates may start becoming a little more sporadic. Consider that a good thing! That just means that there really isn’t anything too significant going on. The expectation is that she will continue working with her therapists and will get a little better each day. Of course those some of those days will be better (or worse) than others.

Yesterday she did her therapies and I was able to take her for a nice long stroll before it became oppressively hot. She had a few visitors and that definitely helped to pass the day. Chad and Sam came by in the evening to spend a little bit of time and say goodnight.

I arrived this morning around 830 for her therapy session. She had another uneventful night (yay!) but she was still appearing pretty tired. Her nurse said that her BP is a bit low. So low in fact, that they have held her BP meds. Mom has been complaining about being hungry for a few days now. We were told that with the tube feedings she really should not be feeling that hungry. I imagine that sometimes people feel hungry just because they miss eating. It’s been quite awhile since she had her peg tube inserted so I would really think that those “phantom hunger pains” would not be an issue anymore. I am currently waiting for the nurse to come back to re-check her BP. I also need to talk to the dietician again and maybe her doctor since the primary dietician is on vacation. She should not have to wait until Monday to get answers.

When you’re hungry and feel like you’re starving, it makes everything terrible. You have no energy, it can fuel your depression, you can’t think, etc. Lack of nutrition could certainly affect her BP. I am hoping that we’ll get to the bottom of this today. But of course asking for help and when it actually arrives are two different things. “Hospital time” is akin to “Island time”, but here no one is happy. Mom is sleeping now. I’m hoping that a mid-day nap won’t interfere with her sleep schedule tonight. But honestly it does her no good to try and stay up in the condition she’s currently in.

Let’s see how the rest of the day goes…
