And Away She Goes! – Tuesday, July 11, 2017

32 feet today!!

She’s resting now. Another good day. It’s too bad that those that used to come around in the beginning haven’t been by to see her progress. She continues to be encouraged by the cards and those that do come to see her. I try not to share my disappointment, although she asks me what happened (particularly regarding certain members of her church). Oh well. I just tell her that everyone has their own stuff going on. Just because people may not come to see her in person doesn’t mean that she’s not thought of. Of course as the overprotective daughter, I have my own opinion about these things (some of which are not very nice, so I will keep those thoughts off of this page).

Regardless, she does not let this get her down. She’s very motivated to regain her independence. So much so that when she’s trying to do something and I see her struggling, she tells me that she’s “got it”. I let her work through it. Whether it’s her trying to navigate herself in her wheelchair through a doorway, reaching for a blanket, or even trying to change her clothes, she wants to try and figure it out for herself. She is finding ways to accomplish what she’s trying to do and it’s been great to see her using various strategies.

I continue to be amazed at her persistence. If anyone can get through this, she can.
