I didn’t realize that having mom do a respite stay somewhere would involve so much work! I honestly thought that all I had to do was pack some clothes, some “comforts” from home, and get her there. NOPE. I need to take literally everything she will need for the week. EVERYTHING. Lots of paperwork, bed rental (she still prefers a hospital bed and Sunrise doesn’t use them), all supplies that she could ever need, meds, clothes, blankets, a TV, her walker… oh, I’m sure I’m forgetting something. Thankfully the people at Sunrise are super helpful and will be working with me this week to make sure I don’t miss anything. The good news though is that her stay is only for a week. Even mom said that she can deal with pretty much anything for a week. That made me feel a little better. Oh she of little faith. Who wants to bet that I end up overpacking for her??
We took a break last night and went for a little drive to see some Christmas lights. We took a drive through the Bull Run Festival of Lights. It was nice because she never had to leave the car. She’s always so cold and a nighttime stroll probably would have made the night less nice. We may try and do it again (or something similar) when Cyndie, Wade, and Chad can join us. Chad was out of town for work so he missed the festivities. It was just a little “girls night out” fun I suppose.
Our Christmas cards arrived today! I am going to try my best to get them out by the end of the week. If I don’t get them done by this weekend, it’s not happening. Mom is our “cover girl” and the picture is quite cute. If you’d like a card, please send me a message with your address and I’m happy to send one. While supplies last! 🙂
Mom has PT tomorrow. I can’t wait to see how her session goes. She’s been having a great few days and really seems to be making up ground. Hopefully her therapist feels the same. I’m still working out the details to ensure that therapy can continue next week while she’s at the facility. Keeping my fingers crossed that it can. But again, it’s only a week. Mom has a bunch of exercises that she can do on her own and I’m really hoping that the event staff can get mom to participate in the different activities they offer. Hopefully that’ll be enough to pass the time and get her moving.
Here’s to another good day!
Hi,
My thoughts and prayers are with both You and your family, for caring and taking such good care of your mom, and for a complete recovery for Sue B.
I was one of her customers at Belleview beauty salon for maybe 12 years or so. We enjoyed many hours talking about our families and laughing about our similar experiences. I marveled at her exercise program etc. She has so much energy. I miss her lovely smile and conversations and I miss going to the salon.
I wish you all a very Merry Christmas.
Please tell your mom I think of her often and wish that we had the chance to go to the MGM casino.. 😀😀
Hi Barbara!
I will definitely pass your message on to my mom. We’ll get her back to the casinos again. I am sure she’ll LOVE the MGM!
Have a Merry Christmas!
Kim
