Her Progress Continues to Amaze Me! – Wednesday, July 19, 2017

I think mom knows that it’s not going to be very long before she’s going to be living with us, so she continues to push herself as hard as she can to improve as much as possible. Last week she worked with her therapists using the hemi-walker and made it about 42 feet each day she walked (Wed-Fri). Yesterday she only had one therapist to assist her (her OT was done separately) so the focus was on sit-to-stand. Today she got to work with a different kind of walker. It looks like a traditional one, but it has a place where she can rest her left arm and bear weight down on it. She looked a lot more confident using this one since she could push it along and lean into it rather than have to pick it up to move it. When all was said and done, she walked 72 feet!! She basically made one full lap in the gym. What a day!

I was able to get an appointment set with the gastroenterologist that inserted her g-tube. Keeping fingers crossed that we’ll have that baby out soon! It’s not happening in July like I had hoped. Not because she’s not ready, but because it’s difficult to get appointments. Thankfully she only has to wait a couple of weeks for her consult. I’m hoping that he’ll take care of it that day rather than having to schedule a follow up appointment, but I’m happy that we’re at least on the books.

Last bit of news that I got today… We have a tentative discharge date!! Looking at/around August 8th. It seems like we still have a bit of time but considering Chad, Sam, and I are headed out of town for the next 8 days, I’m feeling a little panicky. Nothing I can do right now in these last few hours I have stateside. Calling contractors, interviewing aides, rearranging/packing/cleaning/putting away my junk, and mom-proofing this house just moved up on my priority list.

Mom is looking forward to this upcoming week since she’ll get to have a full week with Cyndie. If any of you who read this want to go see mom, feel free to pop on by. No need to call me – I’ll be out of the country and may not get your call in time. I don’t want you to wait for me to say it’s OK. If you want to see her, PLEASE DO! Just understand that if she’s in therapy that takes priority. She rarely naps so even if you see her in bed she’s likely just resting her body but she’ll be glad for your company.
