Settling Back In – Thursday, June 21, 2018

Mom was discharged and moved back to her apartment a couple of days ago (on Tuesday). It already seems like a much better place to be. I was told that she was “bum rushed” by a group of people when she got there – they were all excited to see her. What a great welcome!

By the time I got there with her belongings she had already been at Morningside for a couple of hours. She had lunch with her friend across the hall and another lady that she had met prior to leaving. The caregivers were happy to have her back and were all very sweet. Mom was actually looking a little uncertain though. I think she’s nervous about her inability to get around and how much works she’s going to be making for the girls. Once again (for like the millionth time) I explained that it’s their job to help her. Even if she needs help changing the channel on the TV. ANYTHING that she needs, they are HAPPY to help her. I asked her (well, begged, for the million and first time) NOT to try and get up by herself, transfer, walk, etc. That’s what got her into trouble in the first place. I’m not sure that she will do what she says (ask for help, not get up, etc) but there’s nothing that I can do if she won’t listen. I made sure that she understood that if something happened to her, she’ll likely have to move out of this apartment and into Heritage permanently. Some of the therapists there were great and she had one CNA that was the absolute best but that place would not be my preferred home of choice. She has a choice. Morningside is brighter, people are out and about, tons of activities, and much more lively place. I’m hoping that by socializing with the other ladies there she can get out of her funk and start enjoying life again.

Cyndie will be here tomorrow and will be staying with her in the apartment. They have some wedding plans to discuss. Keeping my fingers crossed that she’ll have a great weekend.
