Today’s the Day! – Wednesday – October 4, 2017

Well, it’s more like “tonight’s the night”… Mom goes in for her sleep study tonight. We really have no idea what to expect. I don’t think it’s going to be the best night of sleep for anyone though. She’s going to be going to bed later than normal, in a “regular” bed, connected to a bunch of wires, with people watching her sleep (but hopefully not in a creepy sort of way). As of yesterday, I get to sleep in a bed too. If they end up booking an appointment, the patient gets the bed and I get a recliner. It’ll be OK. It’s not like it’ll be the first time. It will bring back some memories, I’m sure.

Mom had PT today and her sit-to-stand is pretty much all on her own. We are there to guard her to make sure she doesn’t tip over but she does great with that. The weight bearing that she can do through that left leg is really helping. However at times she does exhibit “clonus”, especially when she’s getting fatigued. Clonus is a fancy word for muscle spasms. Although it’s annoying and can be pretty uncomfortable at times, it’s actually a good sign. That really shows that her leg is not dead. The nerves are firing and it’s making those muscles twitch. This is very encouraging. She’ll just have to power through. Eventually these spasms should subside but there’s no telling how long it will be.

Mom has OT scheduled for after lunch. We didn’t plan it this way but maybe all this activity will work out for her favor. Get her super tired today so that she can hopefully sleep tonight.

Right now she’s taking a break and is visiting with her friend, R. They just started Season 2 of Grace & Frankie. It’s nice to hear them laughing… I think they may even get the aide into this show too.

If I remember, I’ll post an update tomorrow about how the night went. We won’t get our results for awhile though. We couldn’t get in for that appointment until the end of the month. In the meantime, I need to schedule an appointment with a neurologist, just to cover all bases. Hopefully we won’t have to wait too long to see someone. I know I should have been working on this a long time ago. I didn’t think it was that pressing since she’s been stable but I know it’s important to have someone start following her. That’s on my to-do list for today (right now).

Wish us luck for tonight!
